Science Literacy in Your Practice: A Case-based Understanding of Addiction and Initiating Addiction Science in Your Work is designed for clinicians working with clients experiencing mental health and addiction concerns, who are interested in enhancing their knowledge about scientific research and evidence-based practices. This course offers 1.5 hours of CE credit.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of completing this course, you will be better prepared to:

  • Demonstrate appropriate use of a readiness to change tool in the context of addiction treatment.
  • Describe risk factors and comorbidities that are common across behavioral and substance-based addictions.
  • Select and apply a validated screen for Gambling Disorder.
  • Critically evaluate empirical research to identify findings that can inform addiction practice.
  • Identify appropriate steps in the development of an original research study.

Continuing Education (CE) Credits:

  • American Psychological Association (APA) – The Division on Addiction is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Division on Addiction maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program offers 2.0 continuing education credits.
  • National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) – The Division on Addiction has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6121.
