The Gambling & Recovery Podcast Science Accelerator Course consists of 3, 1-hour continuing education (CE) modules designed to provide evidence-based and lived-experience insight into the experience of gambling-related problems. In each module, learners will listen to a recent After Gambling podcast episode hosted by Jamie Salsberg, with special guest Mark Checkwitz, followed by a discussion of related research. Learners can earn 1.0 hour of CE credit per module.
Module 1 focuses on why people gamble and the gambler’s mindset.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of completing this module, you will be better prepared to:
- Delineate reasons for gambling initiation.
- Describe the relationship between gambling availability and gambling involvement.
- Explain how financial circumstances can contribute to gambling behaviors.
- Discuss emotion-based motives for gambling.
- Recognize cognitive distortions related to gambling.
Continuing Education (CE) Credits:
- American Psychological Association (APA) – The Division on Addiction is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Division on Addiction maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program offers 1.0 continuing education credits.
- National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) – The Division on Addiction has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6121. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Division on Addiction is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. This program offers 1.0 clock hours.
